Child and Family Counselling Centre is an outpatient community mental health centre that serves children/youth (0-17) in Elgin County. Our mandate is to provide assessment and intervention services that will improve the emotional well-being of children and adolescents who are referred to us. This includes both direct services to clients, indirect assistance to caretakers and other significant figures as well as public education, prevention, and consultation services to the community at large. Funding is provided by the Ministry of Community, Family and Children's Services. CFCC is a member agency of Children's Mental Health Ontario (CMHO). All CFCC services to clients are free of charge. The agency has 12 staff that includes: 1 - Executive/Clinical Director The agency provides outreach services to East Elgin (Aylmer, Springfield, Port Burwell, etc.) and to West Elgin (West Lorne, Rodney, Dutton). CFCC is located on the corner of South Edgeware Road and Burwell Road in St. Thomas. (See Map). Office hours are generally from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Depending on need and availability, group meetings may be held in the evening as well as later appointments arranged with individual Therapists. Children and young persons age 0-17, and their families, are eligible to be seen as clients if they are residents of Elgin County. As a community mental health agency, CFCC deals with problems affecting the emotional well-being of children and their families. Problems may show themselves as disturbances in the emotions, behaviour, and thinking of the young person. These problems may affect their behaviour at home, in school, or in the community. Confidentiality Client information is protected by strict confidentiality rules, consistent with guidelines in the Child and Family Services Act legislation. A signed consent form is required to release information to (or get information from) anyone other than the parents. The rules regarding non-custodial parents and teenagers of certain ages vary so we recommend that anyone with questions call us and discuss their situation.
